If Henry VIII of England had a mediator, maybe he wouldn’t have created the Church of England in order to annul his marriage to Catherine of Aragorn, who is depicted here pleading against the divorce, in a 19th-century painting by Henry Nelson O’Neil (Wikimedia Commons)
Divorce Mediation Training provides experienced mediators with the skills and knowledge necessary to help individuals reach a divorce agreement through the collaborative process of mediation. The training is led by a panel of experienced mediation trainers and attorneys working in the field of family law and divorce.
Participants will review and workshop basic mediation processes including open-ended questions, managing a multi-partial process, and encouraging self-determined outcomes. Participants will also be trained in topics specific to divorce. Topics include:
- Defining the marital estate
- Child custody and support
- Parenting plans
- Financial statements and disclosures
- Drafting a separation agreement
- Ethical obligations of mediators within the context of divorce agreements.
Participants will engage in lecture, role playing, small group discussions and individual reflection to provide all learners the opportunity to get the most out of this training. Mentoring and next steps will be offered to those completing the training successfully.
